Fan Fret Jumbo – African Blackwood

Fingerstyle guitarist, Dustin Furlow and I were discussing the design of his new African Blackwood/Italian Spruce Mini Jumbo the subject of the sound hole design came up. Dustin sent a couple of designs using intersecting lines that I immediately liked. In thinking about my approach I wanted a pattern that seemed totally random with no discernible repeating lines. I also knew that I wanted to be able to recreate this design so it had to be more than a “one off”. I had to develop a system to produce it. Since I don’t work with CNC I had to use old school techniques to achieve the results I was looking for. After much R&D I finally had my process worked out and have to say that I am very happy with the results. I will now be able to offer this sound hole design in different woods to suit individual instruments. I chose the name “Geometric” to describe this sound hole as this is what comes to mind when I look at it.
